Kanakku: AI expense tracker

Kanakku expense tracker

The problem

Expense trackers are either too simple or too complex. And most store your financial data on their servers.

What I built

A personal expense tracker that's completely free and keeps all data in your own Google Sheets. No external servers, no subscriptions, no data privacy concerns.

The app includes a conversational agent called Kanakku that handles everything through natural language. Tell it "spent 500 on groceries" and it logs the transaction. Ask "how much did I spend on food this month?" and it answers. It imports transactions from bank statements and fetches them directly from Gmail, parsing emails through AI.

The design constraint

The most interesting design constraint was making AI useful without making it invasive. All data stays on the user's own Google Drive. The AI processes locally or through the user's own API key. Privacy isn't a feature, it's the architecture.
